A senior officer North Korean military intelligence had defected to South Korea. South Korea's Defense Ministry has confirmed the defection.
"Yes, that's right," said Moon Sang-gyun, spokesman for South Korea's defense ministry as reported by media Channel News Asia on Monday (4/11/2016)told journalists when asked about the truth of the news agency Yonhap news about the defection. But South Korean officials declined to give any further explanation.
Yonhap quoted an unnamed source, reported that a senior North Korean colonel had defected in 2015, after working in the North Korean agency tasked with the mission of espionage against South Korea.
The defections comes after the Unification Ministry said a group of people consisting of 13 North Koreans who work in a restaurant abroad have defected en masse to the South. The workers consisted of 12 women and one man who manages the restaurant. They have arrived in South Korea on Thursday (7/4) then.

Unification Ministry spokesman Jeong Joon-hee said the 13 workers have the same desire to defect to the South. He said these workers have come under pressure from the Pyongyang government to earnings from the restaurant to the North. However, for reasons concerning the relationship diplomatik, Jeong did not mention in the state where the restaurant is located.
